Alternative Cancer Prevention and Treatments in Suzanne Somers' Knockout

Walk quickly and don't be afraid to run to get a copy of Suzanne Somer's new book on alternative cancer prevention and treatment Knockout: Interviews with Doctors Who are Curing Cancer and How to Prevent Getting It in the First Place, just recently released (November, 2009). If you have a loved one or know someone battling cancer (and who doesn't?), it is essential that you and he/she read this significant book before deciding upon a treatment. If you are looking to avoid cancer in the this place, this book will give you the essential information and direction you want.

The book is dedicated to many of her friends who have fallen to this dreadful disease (Farrah Fawcett,Ed McMahon,Eartha Kitt,Jack Kemp,Suzanne Pleshette,Roy Scheider,Tony Snow,Ted Kennedy and others. It was prompted by a misdiagnosis of Suzanne by six doctors (just a year ago in November 2008) that she had cancer throughout her body and would have to receive full-body chemotherapy (which she felt might have killed her, as later verified by her own doctor). As it turned out the illness was "valley fever."

Suzanne's goal was to write a book that introduces the reader to alternative cancer prevention and treatments that are "healing, curing, building up, and replacing,as another way." As of today it is in the number 1 position on the New York Times Best Seller List reflecting how this concerns so many thousands (millions?) of people today.

Can't We Do Better?

This is the question Suzanne poses in Chapter Three after she discusses a brief history of Big Pharma and their efforts to continue "The Chemotherapy Racket" despite its basic ineffectiveness against almost all cancers. In reading through the early pages, I was reminded of just how we all got in this health mess as I recalled "In 1970, 262,000 tons of MSG were added to American foods(page 41)" and that now how many seniors are disabled from the built-up toxicity in the food and environments they have circulated in. Incidentally, one of the best chapters is an interview with Cristiana Paul, a nutrionalist, who speaks to cancer prevention foods and vitamins, addressing, for instance, the link between vitamin d and cancer prevention and how it works, must work, with vitamin k to be effective.

The Doctors

The heart of this book is the interviews with the doctors. You will learn of various, successful treatments against cancer these doctors have discovered and the persecution (yes, persecution) they have suffered for it. Dr. Burzynski, who discovered that many cancer patients suffered from the lack of a peptide in their body and replacing it helped to cure many of them of the cancer, was nearly jailed for this approach and has been limited by the FDA. What will really make your jaw drop are the testimonials of patients who have been cured by Dr. Burzynski. Mary Jo Siegel, who had stage IV, non-Hogkin's lymphoma, left a Boston hospital and intended chemo and radiation to be treated by Dr. B. After three weeks of treatment, the tumor on the side of her neck disappeared in one night. There are many others, of course, though I can understand how the reader might think these too fantastic....

However, as you read on into the book, and learn of Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, an outstanding scholar and young medical doctor who researched enzyme therapy, and now uses it successfully to treat patients also in late stages of cancer, you begin to understand how alternative cancer prevention and treatments work. Then, again, you read the testimonials from the patients and feel anger towards institutions that disallow "non-conventional" treatments that would take money and fame away from them. But, oh, the many lives that could have been saved....

One comment by Doctor Gonzalez that particularly stood out for me was "The human body is the most exquisite engine ever designed, and you have to put the very best fuel in it to run properly." We seem today as a people to be oblivious to this fact and go on merrily consuming the genetically modified junk food--just what the attractive advertisements teach us.

The Connection Between Nutrition and Health

The doctors Suzanne interviews are real heroes who understand the connection between nutrition and health. As Dr. Russell Blaylock comments, "But I can give a cancer patient nutrients and a bunch of vitamins, and if I do the right ones, they can live a very long time. That's how powerful nutrients can be (page 149)." The book is a great resource to learn about nutrition.

Dr. Blaylock also comments about the danger of using diagnostic tests like mammograms which may in highly sensitive women actually induce breast cancer. This controversy has just recently surfaced in the daily news.

You will discover invaluable insights in alternative cancer prevention and treatments among the other interviews with Dr. James Forsythe, Dr. Julie Taguchi, Dr. Jonathan Wright, Dr. Stephen Sinatra and others. A somewhat large resource section provides lists of antiaging doctors, specialists, clinics and institutes, listed state by state. There are testing sites, compounding pharmacies by state, and integrative health care practitioners providing support for cancer prevention and treatment, as well.

Further information and three additional chapters can be found by visiting Suzanne Somer's website (suzannesomers.com). This is a treasury book that many people will regret not reading, as it may just save their lives or the lives of loved ones.
