Pilates Equipment for Success
What Do You Need with Pilates Equipment and Clothing? Are you new to Pilates? If you are, you can start with a few very basic pieces. Unlike some equipment, good-quality pilates workout equipment is long-lasting and is truly an investment. Therefore, once you buy, you won't need to buy again for a long time, if ever. It's also true that as you get into Pilates, you may want to buy more pilates equipment to satisfy expanding abilities, but again, it's best to start with a few very basic pieces and then build onto them as you get further into doing Pilates. Start with a class or the right texts to teach you the proper ways to do the exercises, and utilize bands and a mat at home. Most basically, when you start Pilates, it's best if you start with a class or utilize some online videos for beginners so that you can see correct form to begin with. In that case, when you do it at home, you may simply want to use a Pilates mat and some Pilates resistance bands as starting pilates equipment. The resistance bands help you increase the difficulty of your workout, but don't cost a lot. If you do decide you want to get into it, other more specialized Pilates equipment can help you ramp up your workout. For those with weak backs... And if you have a weak back, a Pilates spine supporter is going to be valuable to you so that you can do your workouts without risking injury to yourself. The Pilates barrel and ball, too, are other types of equipment you may want to invest in as you go further on in your practice of Pilates. But again, as one expert says, you can do literally hundreds of Pilates exercises just with a mat and some resistance bands. So get started with those (using a spine supporter as necessary in addition) and then work your way on up with more equipment once you become more experienced. What should you look for in Pilates clothing? It's not so important that you buy clothing that says it's for Pilates, but the clothing you buy SHOULD be breathable, should fit you well, should wick moisture away from your skin so that you stay cool and dry during your workouts, and should be comfortable. Most Pilates clothing is made of polyester, spandex, nylon and cotton. When people are doing Pilates, many of them wear close-fitting tops and pants, with a slight flare at the legs. How much should you spend? Again, until you are sure Pilates is something you really want to pursue, spend your money sparingly. Buy just a few basic pieces of equipment and clothing (including a good Pilates mat) to get you started, and then work up from there. Even just a mat, some resistance bands, and spine supporter will let you do a lot. After that, you can go on up as you need to, depending on what your space and budget will support. Start with these few basics, though, and you can still do a good job in your beginning pursuits to get in shape with Pilates.
