Save the Earth One Day At a Time

Save the Earth should be a responsiblity of each individual. If each one of us acts in only small ways, that will combine to make a huge difference. If we act even further on a larger scale, it will make a world of difference.

What can a person do individually? There are a number of things any one person can do to help save the earth. Let's just mention a few:

1. Educate yourself. By reading information in sites such as things that is a critical first step. There are also many green groups (see MeetUp.com) or organizations (such as Save the Earth Foundation mentioned below) on both local or national levels that immediately help change your awareness and motivation to act.

2. Conserve. Just by making it a goal to use less, you will quickly contribute to the solution and not the problem we face today. This means just using less water, electricity and gas for starters.

3. Recycle. Don't just throw away second-hand items such as clothing, furniture, appliances, etc. Give them to someone who could still use them. Recycle as much as possible plastic bottles, metal and aluminum cans, newspapers, telephone books, etc. Do you need to find places or centers to recycle? If you visit Earth 911.Com,you can easily find places to recyle aluminum cans, computers, paint and other items through their widget.

4. Ride a bike or walk. Walking and riding a bike are great exercise for your body and you will save money as well. What a great combination! If you must drive, how about using a hybrid car--which helps reduce carbon monoxide and your monthly gas bill.

5. Organic food. By eating more organic food, you not only reduce the amount of pesticides used, but also help maintain a happy body.

6. Composting. Composting as mentioned earlier in this website is great for the lawn and garden and saves on garbage. There is much more to do and that will be explored in later postings.

Have you ever thought of giving a tree to a loved one as a present? Now you have an opportunity here.

Save the Earth Foundation, started by Neil Pargman ten years ago, raises our "eco-consciousness" and also exists to fund environmental research at colleges and universities. You may visit their site (www.savetheearth.org)to see a list of research projects and an archive that includes letters from Al Gore and Bill Clinton, while also informing how to become a member yourself.

A creative benefit the group sponsored last April in 2008 was a rock and roll auction of memorabilia from top artists such as The Eagles, Kiss, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, and others. Save the Earth Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation, and Neil Pargman states, "We plan to continue funding vital research in an effort to slow and ultimately reverse the deterioration of our planet Earth." Attention needs to be given to the actual earth itself. The use of pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers have damaged the soil. Enriched soil is needed to sustain the growing demand for organic food. Natural fertilizers need to be employed and vital nutrients replaced.

The Principles of Fair Trade Are About Sustainability

Fair trade encompasses the environment and encourages organic, sustainably grown food. There are numerous ways in which fair trade impacts communities, including economics, women's empowerment, the environment, preserving cultural heritage, providing safe working conditions and protecting children. Unlike the conventional approach, fair trade is based on a partnership between producers and consumers. You may learn more about fair trade and how you may influence its growth by visiting Crossing Borders Fair Trade.
